SHAH ALAM, Jan 10 — Thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds are expected to hit seven Selangor districts until 5pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a warning issued at 1.30pm on Facebook, the agency said the districts affected are Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.
“Other states that will be similarly affected are Perak (Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Terengganu (Setiu), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong and Bera) and Putrajaya.
“The inclement weather is also expected to hit Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Jempol, Sabah (Beaufort and Papar),” it said.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
