SHAH ALAM, Jan 7 — The state government is looking at installing up to 500,000 light-emitting diode (LED) lamps in 200 strata housing schemes for 2023, said state executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail.

She said the initiative has been met with very encouraging responses and will help reduce carbon emissions in line with the First Selangor Plan (RS-1).

"At present, we have successfully carried out site studies for 237 strata schemes with 555,581 LED lights.

"Our findings have revealed those who have installed these lights have been able to enjoy electricity savings of between 49 per cent to 80 per cent," Rodziah told SelangorKini.

In the recent State Legislative Assembly sitting, the councillor stated the campaign to install LEDs, a solar system and rainwater housing (SPAH) in all buildings will be expanded to combat climate change in the real estate industry.

In July last year, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said RS-1 will focus on achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050, among others.

The campaign under the five-year plan involves central government and private residential strata buildings, office buildings, hospitals, schools, colleges, universities, stadiums, markets, shopping centres, and factories.
