SHAH ALAM, Dec 22 — Thunderstorms and heavy rains are expected to hit Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya until 7pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a warning issued at 3.10pm, the agency said other states that will also be affected include Negeri Sembilan and Johor.
“Similar weather conditions are also expected in Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Kuala Krai and Gua Musang) and Johor (Tangkak and Muar).
“Meanwhile in East Malaysia, inclement weather is expected to occur in Sarawak (Kuching, Samarahan, Miri, Sibu, Bintulu and Limbang) and Sabah (inland, west coast, Sandakan and Kudat),” the agency said.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
