SHAH ALAM, Dec 15 — Thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds are expected to occur in seven Selangor districts until 7pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a warning issued at 3.40pm on Facebook, the agency said the districts include Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, and Hulu Langat.
“Similar weather conditions are also anticipated in Kedah (Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Pahang (Cameron Highlands and Lipis), and Kuala Lumpur.
“Meanwhile in East Malaysia, inclement weather is also expected in Sarawak (Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu and Miri), Sabah (Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Nabawan, Tawau, Sandakan and Kudat), and Labuan,” it said.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding an hour for a single release.
