Anwar’s appointment receives wide media coverage in Thailand

BANGKOK, Nov 25 — The appointment of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister received wide media coverage in Thailand.

Photos of the 75-year-old politician were on local Thai newspapers as well as on news portals and local TV stations.

Among the Thai media that reported on Anwar’s appointment are Bangkok Post, The Nation Thailand, Thai PBS (portal), Khaosod, Manager Online, The Standard, and Thai PBS ( TV Station).

Bangkok Post’s front page was headlined 'Opposition leader Anwar named PM', while the heading of a Thai PBS article on its website read 'Malaysian opposition leader Anwar appointed prime minister'.

Anwar’s appointment was also reported in The Standard, headlined 'Anwar Ibrahim sworn in as new Prime Minister', while Manager Online’s piece was titled 'Anwar sworn In as new Prime Minister to form new government'.

Meanwhile, Thailand’s Chinese daily such as Kia Hua Tong Nguan and Tong Hua Daily News also carried the story of Anwar’s appointment on their front page today.

An article published in The Standard, written by Assistant Prof Chulanee Tantikulananta, said Malaysian new prime minister Anwar has urgent tasks on hand, including Budget 2023.

“Voters are looking closely at how the newly-elected government could bring changes and restore stability in the country.

“The people are also looking at election pledges made by Pakatan Harapan in the GE15 campaign,” she said.
