SHAH ALAM, Nov 8 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecasted heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms for all districts in Selangor.
In a statement issued at 3pm, the agency said other states and territories which will be similarly affected include Penang, Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, and Melaka.
"Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran and Bera), and Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian and Kulai) are also expected to see inclement weather," it said.
In East Malaysia, Sarawak's affected districts include Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu and Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi).
In Sabah, the affected districts include Pedalaman (Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Nabawan and Tambunan), Pantai Barat, Tawau (Tawau) and Kudat (Kota Marudu)
The weather is expected to persist until 5pm.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
