KANGAR, Nov 8 — Perlis Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) and Parti Warisan are fielding candidates with student status for the state seats in the 15th general election.
Mohd Syahmi Suhaimi, 23, the youngest candidate contesting GE15 is representing Harapan-PKR for the Tambun Tulang state seat.
Mohd Syahmi is a final year Bachelor of Civil Engineering student at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).
"I would be lying if I said I did not feel 'nervous' to face Barisan Nasional political figure Datuk Ismail Kassim who is the incumbent of the Tambun Tulang seat.
"Young people should not be afraid to get involved in the country's politics because they will replace the country's leaders one day," he said.
Meanwhile, Warisan candidate for the Beseri seat Mohd Shamim M Nordin said his involvement in the political arena was supported by his father who is the former Padang Besar Umno Youth chief.
Mohd Shamim, 27, a Bachelor of Science (Human Development) student at Universiti Putra Malaysia who will graduate next month said he would go to the ground to attract veteran voters and use social media platforms to reach out to young people.
According to the Election Commission (EC), as of October 9, some 198,784 voters in Perlis are aged between 18 and 39.
