SUNGAI BULOH, Nov 5 — The Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat, Datuk R Ramanan, said he is confident the coalition retains popular support and will win the seat in the 15th general election (GE15), aided by two state representatives.
He believes the influence of Paya Jaras state assemblyman Mohd Khairudin Othman, who is also the state executive councillor for youth, and Kota Damansara state assemblyman Shatiri Mansor will be helpful during the campaigning period.
“I have both state representatives with me, and am very confident (at winning). I believe we stand a good chance if we all work together.
“Sungai Buloh is Harapan’s stronghold, I am optimistic we can retain the seat,” said Ramanan, when met after the candidates' nomination session at Dewan Kenangan, at the Petaling Land and District Office, earlier today.
Sungai Buloh will see a seven-cornered fight in GE15, with the candidates including former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar who will contest under the Barisan Nasional ticket, and Mohd Ghazali Md Hamin representing Perikatan Nasional.
Other candidates include Mohd Akmal Mohd Yusoff (Pejuang), Ahmad Jufliz Faiza (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and independent candidates Syed Abdul Razak Syed Long Alsagof and Nurhaslinda Basri.
The nomination of candidates began simultaneously at 222 centres across the country at 9am today, and the 14-day campaigning period for GE15 will run until 11.59pm on November 18.
During the 14th general election in 2018, R. Sivarasa from Parti Keadilan Rakyat won the seat after he secured a 26,634-vote majority against PAS' Nuridah Salleh.
