SHAH ALAM, Nov 3 — Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat are expected to be hit with thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds until 7pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a warning issued at 3.40pm, the agency said similar weather conditions are also anticipated in Kuala Lumpur, Perlis, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, and Melaka.
“Inclement weather is also anticipated for several other areas namely Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Penang (Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tengah and Seberang Perai Selatan), and Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim).
“Other areas include Kelantan (Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin) and Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar and Batu Pahat),” it said.
Strong weather is also expected in most parts of East Malaysia namely Sarawak: Sri Aman, Betong (Pusa, Betong and Saratok), Sarikei, Kapit (Kapit and Belaga), Bintulu, Miri (Subis, Beluru, Telang Usan and Marudi) and Limbang, as well as Sabah: Pedalaman, Pantai Barat and Sandakan (Telupid and Beluran).
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding an hour for a single release.
