Wanita PH unveils 30 pledges for GE15, focus on women’s rights

SHAH ALAM, Oct 16 — Wanita Pakatan Harapan (PH) introduced its 30 commitments for the upcoming 15th general election (GE15) at Dewan Raja Muda Musa, here yesterday.

Officiated by PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the commitments are characterised as women’s aspiration for a respectable, fair and inclusive administration.

Themed ‘Wanita Harapan Negara’, the pledges centre on six key themes, including those for women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities (OKU), social development and the effects of climate change as well as economic efforts concerning women’s groups.

For women, the commitment includes proposing amendments to Article 14(1) of the Federal Constitution on automatic citizenship for children born overseas to a Malaysian mother.

Apart from that, they have also pledged on empowering the Syariah court, particularly related to administration management and providing a special fund and legal aid to ensure justice for women.

As for children, Wanita PH aims to introduce the Nutrition Resilience National Plan to address the problem of childhood malnutrition and also proposes to set up a children's committee for civil and Syariah courts.

Among the pledges made for the elderly include enacting an act for senior citizens to ensure that their rights are upheld as Malaysia moves toward becoming an ageing nation by 2030.

In championing the rights of the OKUs, Wanita PH has pledged to propose an amendment to the Person with Disabilities Act to ensure that the group won't face discrimination in healthcare, transportation, education and employment opportunities.

As for the social development and climate change impact, the commitments include

setting up a designated line and grants to a non-governmental organisation that will provide psychosocial support to those with mental illness.
