SHAH ALAM, Oct 4 — Strong winds, heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected to encompass the entire state until early evening, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)
In a statement issued at 3.55pm, the agency said other states and territories which will be similarly affected include Perlis, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Melaka, Labuan, Negeri Sembilan (Seremban, Rembau and Tampin) and Terengganu (Besut, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman)
"Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Penang (Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tengah and Seberang Perai Selatan), and Pahang (Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Kuantan and Rompin) will also see strong weather.
"Similarly, Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Machang, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), and Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru) will also be affected," it said.
In East Malaysia, Sarawak's affected areas include Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Betong (Betong), Sibu (Selangau), Mukah, Kapit (Belaga), Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.
For Sabah, they include Pedalaman (Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau and Tambunan), Pantai Barat, Sandakan (Tongod, Telupid and Beluran) and Kudat (Kota Marudu)
The weather is expected to persist until 7pm.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
