SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — The Malaysian Meteorology Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds in six districts in Selangor until 6pm today.

The affected districts include Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling dan Hulu Langat.

In a statement issued at 2.20pm, MetMalaysia said that similar weather conditions are also to be expected in Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Perlis, among others.

They include Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Padang Terap, Sik and Baling), Perak (Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), Terengganu (Besut and Setiu) and Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin).

“Other states and areas which will be similarly affected include Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Kuala Pilah, Jempol and Tampin), Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru), Sarawak: Kuching, Serian and Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro and Matu) and Sabah: Sandakan (Kinabatangan and Sandakan) and Kudat (Pitas and Kudat,” it said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
