Mask use optional on all airlines under Malaysia Aviation Group

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — Airlines under the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) said effective immediately the use of masks is optional among passengers, except where the usage is compulsory in destination countries.

This follows Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin's comment earlier today on the removal of the mask mandate onboard commercial aircraft.

MAG group chief executive officer Captain Izham Ismail had earlier briefed Khairi on its risk-based approach in making the use of face masks optional onboard aircraft. Among the protective features available in aircraft are the cabin air circulation system where cabin air is refreshed 20-30 times an hour, and the use of High-Efficiency Particulate Air filter that has the capability to filter 99.9 per cent of airborne contaminants including viruses and bacteria.

The airline, however, strongly encourages passengers who are unwell, high-risk individuals and those travelling with high-risk individuals to continue wearing masks onboard.

Passengers travelling with Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings and AMAL can fly confidently as MAG is committed to providing a safe and seamless end-to-end travel experience in line with its MHFlySafe initiative.

This includes aircraft operations by fully vaccinated pilots and cabin crew and frequent aircraft disinfection following guidelines prescribed by the Health Ministry and the World Health Organisation.
