SHAH ALAM, Sept 9 — Seven Selangor districts will experience strong winds, heavy rains and thunderstorms, as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) predict it will last until early evening today.
In a statement issued at 3.10pm, the agency said Selangor’s affected districts include Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.
The weather will persist until 7pm.
“Other states and localities include the whole of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan,” it said.
MetMalaysia also forecasted similar weather patterns for other states and territories in Perak (Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Pahang (Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Bera, Pekan and Rompin), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban and Jempol) and Johor (Segamat, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru).
“Other affected areas include Sarawak: Serian, Samarahan (Simunjan), Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro, Matu and Dalat), Kapit (Song), Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang and Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Tambunan), Pantai Barat, Sandakan (Telupid, Beluran and Sandakan) and Kudat,” said MetMalaysia.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
