SHAH ALAM, Aug 27 — The strong weather earlier predicted for Klang Valley continues, as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecasted heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya until 10pm today.
In a statement issued at 7.05pm, it said other states that are also affected included Perlis, Perak and Melaka.
The agency also expected similar weather condition in several areas within the states of Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Kelantan (Jeli and Tanah Merah), Terengganu (Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Kemaman), Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, Kuantan, Bera and Rompin), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Jempol), Johor (Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru), Sarawak: Kuching, Serian and Miri (Subis, Beluru and Marudi), and Sabah: Pantai Barat (Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud).
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
