SHAH ALAM, Aug 23 — The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya until 7pm today.
In the warning issued at 3.20pm on Facebook, the state and territories of Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak and Labuan are also expected to see wet weather.
The agency also expected similar weather condition in several areas within the states of Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Bera and Rompin), Johor (Segamat, Mersing and Kota Tinggi), Sarawak: Limbang (Lawas), and Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort), Pantai Barat, Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan) and Kudat.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
