SHAH ALAM, Aug 23 — Six districts in Selangor are expected to undergo thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rains until 6pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a warning issued at 1.40pm on Facebook, MetMalaysia said the districts include Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak and Petaling.
The agency has also issued the same warnings of similar weather for other areas including Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Labuan and Kuala Lumpur.
It also warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms in several areas within the states Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak), Pahang (Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Bera and Rompin), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu and Jempol), Johor (Segamat, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru), Sarawak: Limbang (Lawas), and Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort), Pantai Barat, Tawau (Kunak and Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Kinabatangan) and Kudat (Kota Marudu).
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
