KL Golden Jubilee commemorative coins, stamps to be launched

KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 — The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) in collaboration with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Pos Malaysia will be issuing commemorative coins, stamps and first-day covers in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur City Golden Jubilee celebration.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the commemorative coins would be issued in two denominations, namely, the Silver Sterling Coloured with a face value of RM10 and Nordic Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U.) gold shade with a face value of RM1.

"Both types of coins are available at BNM but the sales dates will be announced soon.

"As for the commemorative stamps and first-day covers, these will be sold to the public at RM38 per set from July 7 at the post offices and Philatelic Bureau of Pos Malaysia," he said when launching the commemorative coins and stamps, here, today.

Shahidan said the commemorative coins were the third edition after 1972 and 1990.

"In 1972, the commemorative coins, stamps and first-day covers were issued in conjunction with the declaration of Kuala Lumpur as a city and in 1990, they were issued in conjunction with DBKL's 100th-anniversary celebration as a local authority," he added.

Shahidan hopes that the issuance of commemorative coins, stamps and first-day covers will be a meaningful tribute to and reflection of the rapid development that Kuala Lumpur has undergone over the past five decades.
