Over 12,000 traders, hawkers join Plats to digitalise their business

SHAH ALAM, July 5 — As of yesterday 12,324 small traders and hawkers have joined the Selangor Platform (Plats) programme to expand their businesses to include the state’s online platform.

State executive councillor for entrepreneurs Rodziah Ismail who shared the figure on Facebook today said the platform, which acts as a catalyst for digitalising businesses, is now moving more aggressively to increase participation in Plats.

Previously, Plats coordinator Azizul Hussin said 20,000 small traders and hawkers are being targeted for digitalisation by the end of the year.

“When Plats was first introduced in 2020, only about a thousand registered but participation increases with each year. This year, we are targeting 20,000 small traders and hawkers to register,” he said.

Plats was introduced during the Ramadan period two years ago, to complete the Selangor Digitalisation Agenda ecosystem with a digital platform, following the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic.

On April 11 last year, Plats 2.0 was launched to help traders generate continuous income, instead of being solely limited to the fasting month.

The third iteration of the virtual platform was continued this year in April, which also involved collaboration between the Selangor Digital Partner (RDS), Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB), and 12 local authorities.
