SHAH ALAM, June 29 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has managed to collect approximately RM175.8 million as of this May, compared to the estimated RM388.7 million for this year.

Mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said the amount collected during the same period last year stood at RM166.6 million, indicating an increase.

"The increase in revenue collection is an early indicator that the economic sector in Petaling Jaya is expanding following the Covid-19 pandemic," he said in a statement.

Mohamad Azhan added that MBPJ has prepared various initiatives to increase revenue collection, including encouraging payments online and opening mobile counters.

The council will also conduct scheduled integrated operations and will constantly issue payment-friendly reminder notices, in cooperation with various departments.

"Overall MBPJ's financial performance still records a fiscal surplus of RM50.476 million, contrasting with the deficit budget proposal of RM 21.986 million.

"This amount has been taken into account after the collection of RM175.8 million in revenue, subtracted with management expenditure of RM106.65 million and development expenditure of RM18.67 million," he said.
