SUBANG JAYA, June 20 — A total of 1,659 new cases of dengue fever have been reported in areas under the jurisdiction of the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) during the 23rd Epid Week, which ended on June 11.
Subang Jaya Mayor Datuk Johary Anuar said there has been a surge in cases, with the numbers recorded involving 11 hotspots around the area.
"Everybody must play a role in addressing this problem. In addition to MBSJ and the district health office, residents need to ensure the surrounding areas of their homes or premises are free from breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes.
"Spend a minimum of 10 minutes once a week to find and destroy Aedes mosquito breeding grounds," he said at MBSJ's headquarters earlier today.
On June 15, state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said a pilot project is underway to implement new technology for the efficient monitoring of dengue locations.
She said the project, involving an allocation of RM5 million, includes the use of drones and the development of an epidemic hotspot detection application that can be accessed by the public.
