SHAH ALAM, June 14 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has identified several high-density and high-rise residential areas as the source of the increase of dengue cases in the Petaling district.
Its deputy mayor Sharipah Marhaini Syed Ali said that Desa Mentari, Damansara Damai, Sri Damansara, and Bukit Lanjan are the areas that were identified.
She stated that the local government is conducting two programmes, one of which is raising awareness and the other is increasing enforcement.
“Because public awareness of dengue fever is not as high as we would want, we will work with joint management bodies (JMB) through the Commissioner of Buildings.
“We will also step up enforcement and monitoring in areas like individual and community farms, as well as take more legal action,” she told SelangorKini.
On June 1, the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) stated that Petaling recorded the highest number of dengue cases in the state with 4,436 infections, followed by Klang (2,729), Hulu Langat (2,435), Gombak (1,188) and Sepang (334).
