SHAH ALAM, June 1 — Approximately 216 premises in Selangor have been closed due to the hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), said Deputy Health Minister I Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali.

He said this is out of 691 premises nationwide that have been shuttered for 10 days, in line with the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

"Some 146 premises have voluntarily chosen to close, of which 21 are located in Selangor," Dr Noor Azmi said.

He was speaking at the press conference following the state-level HFMD Town Hall Meeting at the Raja Tun Uda Library earlier today.

Dr Noor Azmi added that so far 20,433 HFMD cases have been reported in Selangor, with Petaling recording the highest number of cases at 7,247.

"182 HFMD clusters have been reported in the state, involving 773 cases wherein 83 per cent involve nurseries, kindergartens and day care centres," he said.
