SHAH ALAM, May 16 — The strong weather earlier predicted for Klang Valley continues, as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecasted heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya until 6pm today.

In a statement issued at 2pm, it said other states which are also affected included Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

The agency also expected similar weather condition in several areas within the states of Perak (Hulu Perak, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang and Mersing), Sarawak: Kapit (Belaga), Bintulu (Tatau and Sebauh), Miri (Beluru and Marudi) and Limbang and in Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Tenom and Beaufort), Pantai Barat (Ranau), Tawau (Tawau and Lahad Datu) and Sandakan (Kinabatangan).

Elsewhere inclement weather is also predicted until 7pm for Pahang, Kelantan (Jeli, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang) and Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus and Kuala Terengganu).

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
