Showers in three Selangor districts until noon — MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, May 16 — Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecasted heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms in three Selangor’s districts until noon today.

In a statement issued at 9am, it said the districts include Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor and Klang.

“Other states and territories that will be affected include Perlis, Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang and Kuala Muda), Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak), Terengganu (Dungun and Kemaman), Pahang (Kuantan) and Johor (Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru).

“In East Malaysia, only Sarawak will be affected with its areas including Betong (Saratok and Kabong), Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit (Song and Kapit) and Bintulu (Tatau),” said the agency.

The weather is expected to persist until 12pm.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
