Covid-19: New daily cases remain below 10,000 for three consecutive days

KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 — New daily Covid-19 cases in the country have remained below 10,000 for three consecutive days with 9,002 cases reported yesterday, bringing the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 4,342,559.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement today that a total of 8,112 new cases were reported on Sunday followed by 7,739 cases on Monday.

Of the total new cases recorded yesterday, he said 67 cases or 0.74 per cent were in Categories Three, Four and Five.

He said 394 Covid-19 cases were admitted to the hospital yesterday of which 162 cases were in Categories Three, Four and Five, while the remaining 232 cases were in categories One and Two.

The number of recoveries yesterday also exceeded the number of new cases when 16,986 recovered cases were reported, bringing the cumulative total to 4,180,763.

On the usage of health facilities dedicated to Covid-19 cases, Dr Noor Hisham said he said only two states registered Covid-19 critical or intensive care unit (ICU) bed occupancy of over 50 per cent, namely the Federal Territory of Putrajaya at 100 per cent and Selangor at 51 per cent.

No state recorded occupancy of more than 50 per cent at Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC).

The national Covid-19 infectivity rate or Rt value yesterday was 0.84, with Selangor still registering the highest at 0.93 and Kelantan the lowest at 0.63, he added.
