SABAK BERNAM, March 27 — The state government is formulating a long-term plan to resolve the flooding issue in Selangor via an allocation of over RM7 billion.
State executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim said the project will encompass water source management in light of the predicted drought that will affect the state in 2025.
"The project will be carried out comprehensively, not just flood management strategy but also water storage in lakes, ponds or tunnels as preparation for the drought season.
"Among the processes is deepening Sungai Klang until Kuala Lumpur, which involves a RM700 million cost, including cliff reinforcement.
"Additionally, the tunnel's construction will increase the water flow in Shah Alam, at a cost of RM2 billion," he said after the officiation ceremony for the Kelong Paradise Waterfront Resort earlier today.
The Pandan Indah state assemblyman said the project, carried out by Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB), will commence in another four months and is expected to be completed within two years or so after it begins.
Earlier, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said Selangor's flood mitigation project would begin with the deepening of Sungai Klang, which will be implemented in the near future.
