SHAH ALAM, March 26 — Strong winds, heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to occur in seven districts in Selangor until 6pm today.

The weather forecast includes areas in Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.

“Heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds are also predicted in the Perlis, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Melaka and Johor,” said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a statement issued at 2.35pm today.

The agency said similar weather condition is also forecasted in several areas in the state of Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Sik and Baling) and Perak (Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim).

Other affected states and areas include Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Bentong and Bera), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Jempol and Tampin), Sarawak: (Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong and Sarikei) as well as in Sabah: Pedalaman (Tambunan) and Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran).

MetMalaysia issues the warning if signs indicate that thunderstorms with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are expected to occur over a one-hour duration.

The thunderstorm warnings are short-term, with each warning valid within six hours after being issued.
