SHAH ALAM, March 25 — The strong weather earlier predicted for parts of Selangor and the rest of the country continues, as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecasted heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms for three of the state’s districts.
In a statement issued at 3.30pm, it said Selangor’s affected districts include Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat.
“Other states and areas which are also affected include the Kuala Lumpur, Perlis and Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu).
“Elsewhere inclement weather is also predicted for Penang (Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tengah and Seberang Perai Selatan), Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim) and Kelantan (Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang) ” MetMalaysia said.
Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Kuantan and Rompin), Johor (Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru) will also be affected.
“All the aforementioned areas will experience heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms until 8pm tonight,” it said.
The agency also expected similar bad weather to take place until 6pm in Sarawak: Kapit (Kapit and Belaga), Bintulu (Tatau and Bintulu), Miri (Marudi) and Limbang, as well as in Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort) and Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran).
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
