SHAH ALAM, March 18 — The construction of the Selgate Rawang Hospital has reached 45 per cent completion as of this February, said state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.

She said the project was delayed due to several unavoidable factors caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It was delayed as there was a manpower reduction due to the implementation of the movement control order (MCO) and MCO 3.0, that also caused a shortage of foreign workers in the construction field.

“The MCO also forced suppliers to shutdown their operations which slowed down work. Similarly the sharp rise in raw materials prices further disrupted the construction process,” Dr Siti Mariah told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here earlier today.

She was responding to Rawang state assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat on the construction of the Selgate Rawang Hospital, the reasons for its delay and actions by the state government to ensure its completion soon.

Dr Siti Mariah said the Selgate Rawang Hospital is owned by Selgate Corporation, a state-owned entity.

“As the holding company, Selgate Corporation will ensure the construction of the hospital can be completed as soon as possible,” she said.
