SHAH ALAM, Feb 19 — Five big screens will be set up outside of the Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC) today for badminton fans to catch the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) 2022 semi-finals.
The championship’s Organising Committee chairman, Mohd Khairuddin Othman, said the move is to cater to the limited access of only 200 spectators allowed in the hall for each session.
“We received encouraging responses from the fans and some of them were willing to wait outside SCCC to replace the vacant seats,” he said, adding that the installation of the screens would also depend on the weather condition.
Mohd Khairuddin, who is also the state executive councillor for sports development, said the number of seats would be increased to 800 should the national team qualify for the final round.
Malaysia had advanced to the semi-finals after the men’s team managed to top Group B while the women’s team topped Group Y. Both teams are scheduled to play against South Korea.
