SHAH ALAM, Jan 16 — Various activities have been held since last December at the temporary shelter at Dewan Sri Siantan, Gombak, to lift the spirits of residents who were relocated there following a landslide nearby.

Taman Templer state assemblyman Mohd Sany Hazman said many parties have come forward to help the families who were ordered to move out from their homes at the Teratai Apartments in Bandar Baru Selayang and are expected to be temporarily housed at the centre for two months.

“We want to ensure that they remain spirited and cheerful, especially the children. Some of the activities arranged include drawing and colouring activities and carom games offering prizes. Reading materials are also provided.

“The community service centre, Selangor Health Community Volunteers (Suka), Selangor Local Youth Movement (PeBS), and Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS) are all involved in this effort,” Mohd Sany told SelangorKini.

A total of 38 families from the Teratai Apartments were ordered to move out by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) on December 30 last year, after the building was deemed unsafe due to emerging cracks following a landslide on December 18.

Gombak District Officer Nor Azlina Abdul Aziz, who is chairman of the district disaster committee, said that the building is the sixth location under the purview of MPS that had been classified as critical and requires immediate attention.

She said restoration works are expected to complete in two months
