SHAH ALAM, Jan 9 — A total of five tonnes of clothing has been collected under the Free Clothing Bazaar Programme at Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Taman Sri Muda, here, to be distributed to flood victims.

Founder of Lead UP Malaysia, Sangheta Jeyakumar, said the programme would benefit some 3,000 individuals who were hit by the floods last December, including those in other areas affected outside of Taman Sri Muda.

“We expect more than 3,000 people to benefit from this programme, which would help in easing their burden.

“Those who come here are not only from Taman Sri Muda but there are also those from Bukit Lanchong and Sentosa,” he said when met yesterday.

Sangetha said apart from clothing, other basic necessities and household items such as bed linen, curtains, baby and adult diapers and dishes that were donated by the public will also be distributed.

“The programme involves several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and a lot of the items that were donated to them were brought here.

“ This is the second series of the programme as the temporary relief centres only provided items for immediate use and they (the flood victims) also require clothing and items for future use,” he said.

The Free Clothing Bazaar Programme is held for two days from yesterday to today from 9am to 3pm at Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Taman Sri Muda, offering various clothing for women, men and children.
