SHAH ALAM, Jan 2 — The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department has placed personnel at risky areas to conduct patrols, in light of the high tide phenomenon that is affected several locations today.
Its director Norazam Khamis said six personnel from every fire station has been mobilised to locations identified as being at risk, including Sabak Bernam, Tanjung Karang, Sungai Besar, Kuala Langat, Banting, Kuala Selangor, and Sepang.
"Our staff began conducting their rounds early in the morning, with patrols done periodically. To residents in the area, I advise them to remain vigilant," he told SelangorKini.
Norazam added he hopes the public, particularly in affected areas, adhere to instructions when told to move, should the waters rise continuously.
"Leave your homes immediately if the water begins to enter. Our personnel are always ready to assist, but usually the tide situation is only temporary, and the waters will recede not long after.
"However precautionary steps should be taken, as we are concerned that rainfall could lead to flooding," he said.
Coastal area residents, especially in the Peninsular's west coast states, are advised to be more vigilant following the high tide phenomenon that is expected to take place for four days, starting today.
The Irrigation and Drainage Department has stated the areas involved include Kuala Muda in Kedah, Bagan Datoh in Perak, Klang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam dan Kuala Selangor in Selangor, as wellas Batu Pahat and Pontian in Johor.
