SHAH ALAM, Dec 26 — Flood victims are hopeful the Selangor state government will provide back-to-school aid in addition to the RM1,000 to each family.

One mother, Hasnida Mat Drus, 45, said the school preparations for her six children had already been purchased but was destroyed in the flood.

"The RM1,000 aid from the Selangor government is something I welcome as every bit helps, but if we were given clothing, shoes, and school bags perhaps that would be better.

"It grieves me to see my children's schoolthings all covered in mud," she told SelangorKini at the temporary relief centre at Pusat Latihan Pengajar dan Kemahiran Lanjutan.

Hasnida, who recently gave birth, said she did not anticipate the severity of the floods despite living in Taman Sri Muda for over two decades.

On Monday the state government announced a RM100 million fund to kickstart the Selangor Bangkit programme, following the floods in several districts last Saturday.

Asides from infrastructural recovery, the Menteri Besar said the allocation encompasses RM10,000 in aid to the families of flood victims who perished.

The RM1,000 in aid will be provided to flood victims' heads of households, which is meant for them to restore their homes and replace damaged goods.
