SHAH ALAM, Dec 26 — Approximately 15,146 flood victims still remain in 95 temporary relief centres (PPS) throughout Selangor, as of 8.21pm yesterday.
This is a considerable drop in numbers, compared to the 17,912 victims recorded at 3pm.
"The state government will continue to double its efforts to help victims clear their homes of flood waste," said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari on Twitter.
Amirudin has been on the ground since Friday with local representatives, monitoring and assisting cleaning operations in and around Shah Alam, Hulu Langat, and Petaling.
He also announced RM2 million in early aid via the Selangor Bangkit programme's allocation, to redevelop Hulu Langat which was badly affected by the floods.
The extraordinary rain from December 17 to December 19 was double the previous highest rainfall average of 180mm, resulting in many places in Selangor becoming submerged in water.
To this, all state government assets and Federal agencies including the Fire and Rescue Department, the police, and the army, were mobilised to evacuate victims to safe locations, as well as move necessary goods.
