SHAH ALAM, Dec 24 — About half of the total number of flood victims in Selangor, who were housed at temporary relief centres (PPS) since Saturday, have returned home, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar said some 17,912 victims are still seeking shelter at 94 relief centres in the state as of 3pm.

“Water pumping works is intensified so that more flood victims can return home the soonest possible,” he said on Twitter today.

Yesterday, Amirudin had along with other people’s representatives had visited and facilitated cleaning operations of flood-hit areas in Shah Alam, Hulu Langat and Petaling.

As of last night, a total of 2,376 metric tonnes of waste were collected by KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) using 494 lorries and 39 excavators.

Amirudin had also announced a RM2 million allocation from the Selangor Bangkit initiative will be channelled to Hulu Langat, for the recovery of a large portion of the district affected by the floods.

The extraordinary rain from December 17 to 19 was double the previous highest rainfall average of 180mm, resulting in many places in Selangor becoming submerged in water.
