SHAH ALAM, Dec 23 — The Meteorological Department of Malaysia (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds for areas in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, as well as the states in the southern peninsula.
In a statement issued this morning, MetMalaysia said a similar weather condition is also forecast in several locations in Sabah and Sarawak.
The districts affected in Selangor include Klang, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang; Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Tampin in Negeri Sembilan; and Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru in Johor.
While in Sarawak, the affected districts are Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah and Bintulu, while Tawau, Sandakan, and Kudat in Sabah will see thunderstorms expected until 9am today.
“The warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm/hour which are expected to take place for over an hour.
“Thunderstorms warning is a short-term warning which is valid within six hours after it was issued,” the statement was read.
The warning was issued at 7.50am today.
