SHAH ALAM, Dec 2 — The Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) has accomplished two achievements since last year, said state executive councillor for trade and investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim.
He said this is a testament to the state’s efforts in attracting investment and providing the best delivery services to investors.
“SIBS is not only one of the first online trading events in the world during the movement control order (MCO) in 2020 but is also one of the first hybrid trading events in the world after the MCO this year.
“SIBS is also recognised as the largest trade summit organised by the state government in the Malaysian Book of Records,” he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session here today.
Teng said this as part of his winding-up address of the debate on the 2022 Selangor Budget (#Selangor2022).
Teng added that SIBS’ total accumulated trade value has exceeded RM1.1 billion, with more than 100,000 visitors from 33 countries coming to the summit.
He said the state government first organised the Selangor International Expo in 2015, which later developed SIBS by2017.
“The recent SIBS 2021 was organised with nine events under its umbrella, of which six were organised directly through the State Economic Planning Unit, Invest Selangor, and the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation,” he said.
The recently-concluded SIBS 2021 drew over 25,000 visitors throughout the four-day event.
The event is one of the initiatives by the state government to rebrand Selangor as a world trade hub and the gateway to the Southeast Asia region.
