SHAH ALAM, Nov 26 — Selangor has allocated RM1.25 million in its 2022 budget for 2,500 children throughout the state who have been orphaned by Covid-19.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said each of the orphans will receive RM500 in cash aid.
“The state government is very concerned about this group of Selangor children and will give financial contributions amounting to RM1.25 million to them. This will benefit 2,500 orphans across the state.
“The RM500 cash aid will be given to children in Selangor who have lost a parent to Covid-19,” he said while tabling the 2022 Selangor Budget at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here, today.
In addition, the state government will also coordinate with agencies such as the Welfare Department, Selangor State Health Department as well as other units to provide support for children orphaned by Covid-19 in matters such as estate management, childcare and emotional health assistance.
“Among those most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic are children who have lost a mother or a father.
“I have visited several families where both parents were victims of Covid-19 and their children (now live) in a situation of uncertainty,” he said.
