SHAH ALAM, Nov 22 — The public has been advised to take their Covid-19 vaccine booster doses, in light of the increase in cases of late.
State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the doses should be taken particularly by those who are frequently outside and meet many people.
"Lately I have seen the Covid-19 cases data increase slightly, and we are concerned if this trend continues, since the body's immunity begins to drop after six months of their last vaccination.
"Hence this is why the booster dose is first administered to the elderly, or to chronic patients. For those who are constantly outside their homes, it is advisable to take the dose, for self-protection and those around you.
"It may not offer 100 per cent protection, but in the event of an infection, it would not be so bad," she said at the Talian SELamat launching ceremony at the Selangor Public Library Corporation today.
Dr Siti Mariah added the state government and Selangor state health department is always prepared, in the event of a drastic increase in cases.
"In fact, the Selangor government has previously approved an RM10 million allocation to monitor those positive with Covid-19 at home, via the SELangkah app.
"This is to ensure early detection, since we do not want any brought-in-dead cases due to Covid-19," she said.
