SHAH ALAM, Nov 16 — The state government is reviewing the need to increase the purchase stock of 100 units of the Skim Smart Sewa affordable housing programme, to meet existing demand.

State executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail said since the programme's introduction in 2015, approximately 1,111 units have been involved in its implementation, via development allocations channeled by the state government as starting capital.

"Of this number, 649 units are open for rent to the public since the project is fully completed, while 110 units have been submitted for the rental process.

"On-site construction projects involve 40 units, while new purchases approved of last year and this year stands at 312 units," she said when contacted by Selangorkini.

Rodziah added that 920 applications have been received thus far, with 530 units rented out to the public, while the interviewing process for new entries is currently underway for the remaining empty units.

Through the 2021 Selangor Budget, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced RM20 million would be allocated for Skim Smart Sewa, using the funds from the Tabung Amanah Pengecualian Syarat Kuota Bumiputera.

The programme provides an opportunity for low and medium-income groups unable to afford the Rumah Selangorku programme, to own their own homes.
