Malaysia Cup quarter-final: Bojan deems KL City underdogs against Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 — The status as Group A champions apart from an unbeaten record in the 2021 Malaysia Cup so far is no guarantee that Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC will prevail in their quarter-final clash with neighbours Selangor FC, said the City Boys head coach Bojan Hodak .

Bojan said he won't be lulled into a dream following the excellent achievement by KL City in the group stage of the prestigious local football tournament.

The Croatian thinks that the Red Giants, as 33-time Malaysia Cup champions, have an advantage in the quarter-finals because his squad is still a new team in the Malaysian League and does not want to put pressure on his men after advancing to the last eight.

“We are not the favourites to win against Selangor even though many have seen KL City's performance so far in the Malaysia Cup.

"Selangor have an advantage in terms of player selection because they have a huge reserve pool compared to KL City who have a small squad," he said in a statement issued by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) yesterday.

However, he expects tight competition in the home and away quarter-final matches after the record of all meetings between the two teams throughout the season, including a friendly match, having ended in draws.

Selangor will host the first leg at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium on November 14 while KL City will host the second at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium on November 18.
