PETALING JAYA, Sept 3 — The Selangor government has begun distributing in stages the 60,000 self-test kits for free to families of Covid-19 patients.

State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said 5,000 kits were handed over to five state representatives, namely Bandar Utama, Seri Setia, Kota Damansara, Taman Templer and Subang Jaya, with each constituency receiving 1,000 kits respectively.

“The self-test kits distribution will help with self-screenings should they or their families need to undergo home quarantine.

“Usually, when the patients are being quarantined at home, sooner or later, the whole household becomes close contacts, and they are not allowed to go out. That is why the kits are needed to isolate those who tested negative from infected persons,” she said at a press conference at the Bandar Utama Community Service Centre, here today.

Dr Siti Mariah added that the kits also could be used to verify health status after completing the quarantine period.

On August 12, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had revealed that the state government planned to provide 60,000 free self-test kits to the people of Selangor in September.

He said the self-test kits would be channelled to the affected families via community service centres and state legislative assembly coordinating offices in the 56 state constituencies across Selangor.
