KLANG, Sept 26 — Around 800,000 of Klang residents have received the Covid-19 vaccine so far, said its MP Charles Santiago.

He said the numbers were compiled from MySejahtera, as well as all vaccination initiatives conducted in Klang, including those under the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax).

“Although the number is high, yet we have a population of around 1.3 million people, so there are another 500,000 Klang residents who have not been vaccinated.

"Because of this huge gap, we must conduct Selvax programmes such as the one today, to ensure more people get vaccinated," Charles said at the Selvax mobile unit programme at the Dewan Kompleks Sukan Pandamaran here today.

According to Santiago, the 1,200 doses provided today were insufficient to accommodate the demand from the large numbers of people who came.

"I will discuss with (state executive councillor for public health) Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud to hold more similar programmes in the near future," he said.

Operating since September 12 from 9am to 5pm, the programme aims to ensure that no one is left behind when getting vaccinated in Selangor.

The initiative runs in stages and covers the Bandar Baru Klang, Batu Tiga, Tanjung Sepat, Gombak Setia, Bukit Antarabangsa, Batang Kali and Hulu Bernam constituencies.

The program is open to individuals aged 18 and above, including foreigners, who must register early via the SELangkah mobile app.
