MB: RM1 mln allocated to mobilise unity efforts in Selangor

By Mustakim Ramli

SHAH ALAM, July 4 — The Selangor government has allocated a total of RM1 million to mobilise efforts for state unity and integration through the Unity Committee, chaired by Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the funds are also used to set up the Selangor Unity and Integration Council (MPIS), which serves as a think tank on state government policies related to unity.

“The effort is expected to drive and boost Selangor’s economy that has been exemplary not only in terms of rapid development and progress and also to achieve social prosperity,” he said during the virtual launch of MPIS last night

He said the diverse state population, which has a racial composition of 3.54 million Malays, 1.5 million (Chinese), 757,000 (Indians), and 52,000 other ethnicities, makes up the uniqueness of the state.

However, he reminded that diversity also has the potential to trigger conflict if it is not managed accordingly.

“This social deficit has to be identified, understood, monitored and managed so that we can tackle this challenge together,” he said.
