BANGI, May 9 — Some 80 per cent of the positive Covid-19 cases traced during Selangor’s free community screening drive were found to be asymptomatic.

Selcare Clinic manager Mohd Noor Md Nasir said if the cases were not traced early on, it would cause the infections to spread faster within the community.

“Since the first time we held the screening operations, we have detected 80 per cent asymptomatic cases.

“This situation worries us because if these asymptomatic individuals are not screened, then this would lead to more transmissions within the community,” he said when met at the Covid-19 community screening at the Section 7 Multipurpose Hall in Bandar Baru Bangi, here today.

The Selangor government is conducting a monitoring programme from May 8 to June 10 to trace active Covid-19 cases in the state.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari had previously said that the programme starts with the free screenings in Kajang and Semenyih, with the cost fully borne by the state government.

The state government has allocated a total of RM6 million for the free Covid-19 community testing initiative.

The programme targets the involvement of 50,000 residents covering high-density areas and low-income groups.
