EMCO at SM Sains Banting from April 24 until May 7

SHAH ALAM, April 25 — The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) was implemented at Sekolah Menengah (SM) Sains Banting, Kuala Langat starting yesterday after a Form 1 student was detected to have Covid-19 symptoms on April 12.

Kuala Langat Disaster Management Committee chairman Mohd Jusni Hashim said the student was confirmed positive on April 15 while the second and third positive cases were close contacts to the first case.

"As a result of the three cases, the District Health Office (PKD) has conducted an investigation and preliminary assessment on 206 preliminary screening tests on close contacts. Of that number, 71 students tested positive for Covid-19.

"PKD Kuala Langat also confirmed that the spread of cases is still happening in this locality with a high infectivity rate. It is due to the Covid-19 infection of the Jalan Shah Banting cluster," he said in a statement here yesterday.

Mohd Jusni said the EMCO covered the entire SM Sains Banting area involving 966 students, teachers and school staff.

On Friday, the government announced the implementation of EMCO at the school starting yesterday until May 7 after 71 students tested positive for Covid-19 out of 473 screening tests conducted.
