Trader fined RM2,000 for lodging false police report

KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 — A trader was ordered to pay a maximum RM2,000 fine yesterday by the Selayang Magistrate’s Court here for lodging a false police report, to avoid his wife from being issued a summons for driving a car without a valid licence.

Magistrate Nur Hafizah Rajuni meted out the sentence against Mohamad Faizal Mosnon, 33, after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence and ordered him to serve three months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.

The accused was alleged to have lodged a report to a police officer when it was known to be false.

The offence was committed at the Gombak Traffic Police Station, Gombak here at 2.43pm on March 16, under Section 182 of the Penal Code.

In the police report, Mohamad Faizal claimed that he was the driver of the car that was involved in an accident when police investigations found that his wife was actually behind the wheel of the vehicle.

According to the facts of the case, there was an accident at Jalan Batu Caves Lama involving two vehicles, on the same day the report was lodged.

The accused’s wife also admitted that the police report made by her husband was false, intended to avoid herself from being issued a summons for not having a valid driving licence.
