Local e-sports team to make debut at FIFAe World Cup Final rounds

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 — It began as a hobby for e-sports fans Muhammad Luqman Haziq Hajiman and Ahmad Shahrin Shaharudin, before both turned professionals for GBX E-Sports Team and they will be creating history in the FIFA21 video game competition at global level soon.

They are now the leading FIFA21 players in the country and are preparing to carry Malaysia’s challenge in the final round of the FIFAe Club World Cup Championship from February 25-28.

Muhammad Luqman, also known Fenrir in the virtual court was the first player from Southeast Asia to qualify for the FIFAe World Cup qualifying round in Barcelona, Spain in 2018.

“What started as a hobby is now a serious challenge to bring honour to the country and I am out to prove that there is talent in Malaysia,” the Universiti Malaya student told Bernama yesterday.

In the FIFAe Club World Cup Zone 2 tournament, GBX E-Sports Team will be facing Kashima Antlers and Blu United of Japan as well as a local team Wicked Esports in a round-robin.

The two best teams will determine the winner of Zone 2 and crowned the champion to join five more champion teams in the final.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Shahrin who is known as Ayen in e-sports said they are poised to put Malaysia’s name in FIFA world community.

He said both of them have formed a formidable duo in the past two years to realise their dreams.

“For me, what I have really done is for the Malaysian e-sports industry,” said the 21-year-old Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) student.

GBX E-Sports Team last week expressed confidence to win the FIFAe Club World Cup Championship title after FIFA introduced a new format which saw the final round broken down into six zones.
